Northwestern Mutual Wins Childhood Cancer Impact Award
Northwestern Mutual's network office in Baltimore, Maryland has been awarded the 2014 Childhood Cancer Impact award for the Eastern region by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. As part of its efforts to fund childhood cancer research and support families battling the disease, Northwestern Mutual partners with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Starlight Children’s Foundation to raise funds and awareness. Due to the exceptional service efforts by the local office, both organizations will receive a $50,000 grant on their behalf.
Steve Forbes and John Schlifske on “Econo-ME: Redefining the Rules of Financial Security”
Northwestern Mutual hosted a speaker series with Steve Forbes, chairman and editor in chief of Forbes Media and John Schlifske, Northwestern Mutual chairman and CEO. Forbes and Schlifske shared their perspectives on the economy, the markets, and how individuals and business owners must redefine the rules of financial security during times of market volatility. The event was part of a three day, six-city tour and saw over 3,500 attendees. The Baltimore event, which took place at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace, had 900 in attendance.
Northwestern Mutual & Torrey Smith Provide Fun-Filled Night for Children Battling Cancer
On October 15, Northwestern Mutual's Baltimore network office, partnering with the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith and his foundation, hosted children battling cancer and their families for a one-of-a-kind evening of fun at M&T Bank Stadium. As part of Northwestern Mutual's Childhood Cancer Program, these brave children, who rarely have a chance to just be kids, had a unique opportunity to take a behind the scenes tour of M&T Bank Stadium and spend time with Super Bowl champion Torrey Smith.

Matt Birk's HIKE Foundation was established in 2002 to provide children with the educational opportunities needed to excel in the classroom and in life.
