Northwestern Mutual Mid-Atlantic is proud to help fund childhood cancer research by fundraising and raising awareness for our research partner; Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death among kids under 15 years of age in the U.S.* This disease attacks approximately one in every 330 kids, which means that children in our community are battling cancer right now.*

Childhood cancer research and family support services are dramatically and consistently underfunded. This funding gap creates an uncertain future for thousands of children and families fighting pediatric cancer today. Our office, and other Northwestern Mutual offices across the country are committed to closing this gap through various fundraising efforts and by raising awareness in our communities.

As part of our partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, Northwestern Mutual representatives and their families come together every summer to host lemonade stands across Maryland and southern Pennsylvania. In 2014 our office received the Childhood Cancer Impact Award for the Eastern Region from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation which resulted in ALSF recieving a $50,000 grant on our behalf. Since then our local offices have raised over $30,000 for childhood cancer research. On a national level, Northwestern Mutual has raised almost $14 million and funded over 160,000 hours of research to fight childhood cancer.

Black Eyed Susan Day

Northwestern Mutual Mid-Atlantic is the sponsor of the “Northwestern Mutual Spend Your Life Living” stakes, run annually at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, Maryland. The race is part of The Maryland Jockey Club’s Black Eyed Susan Day festivities, a day of races and fundraising which occurs the Friday before the Preakness Stakes each year.

2017 marked the 2nd running of our race, and several Northwestern Mutual Financial representatives entertained their clients in a private sky suite to celebrate this rich Maryland tradition. Black Eyed Susan Day benefits The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and Susan G. Komen® Maryland.

Living Classrooms Foundation

Members of Northwestern Mutual Mid-Atlantic support the Living Classrooms Foundation, whose mission is to "inspire young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training." Living Classrooms Foundation was founded in Baltimore in 1985 and has since grown into dozens of programs across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC offering K-8 education, hands-on enrichment education, and job training for at-risk youth and young adults.

Our Managing Partner, Scott Iodice, sits on the board of Living Classrooms Foundation. His passion for this local organization has inspired many of our Financial Representatives and staff to volunteer their time for this worthy cause. Living Classrooms offers a variety of programs that our team is involved in, from summer camps, to food drives, to mentoring.

Our local office is also a proud sponsor of Maritime Magic, one of Baltimore's largest fundraising events which benefits Living Classrooms Foundation.
